what are YOU doing here?

what are YOU doing here?

During the last few weeks I have been thinking about upgrading to Vista. Mmm...sounds yummy, don't even need to get a mac or windows blinds - it already has the visuals built-in. It does, however, come at a price: I would need to do an upgrade to run Aero - my graphics card (64Mb, DirectX 7 only). I don't need top of the line, but I wouldn't want to go for junk either. Probably around 150 dollars.

If you think about it, I would need to update memory too. A puny 768Mb for only 2 slots on the motherboard is not enough, at least, IMHO. Besides, my mobo supports only 333Mhz, so I'm out of luck with the new, similarly priced 553Mhz DDR2. Which brings me to the conclusion that I would need to upgrade my motherboard AND memory. Motherboard - roughly 170CAD, memory - almost 200 for 2 modules of 1Gb each.

At last, where would I put my old processor? Yep, you've guessed it, I need a new CPU as well. And since core 2 duo from intel is in fashion and I'm a highly fashionable person, I end up on the street with my newly built pc, lol. I would probably try to go for the 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo E6600, the first in their lineup to have 4Mb of cache. A mere 260$ would get me the OEM version of this beauty. So, to recap: graphics card - 150$, shiny new motherboard - 170$, memory - 200$ and CPU - 260$.

Oh, I forgot one: having money - priceless.
